Barry Allen Altemus Sr., 60, of Grampian died Friday, April 28, 2017 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born June 6, 1956 in Easton, he was the son of Russell Altemus and Pauline (Snyder) Altemus McManigle.
Mr. Altemus was a self-employed lumberman and sawmill operator. He had previously worked for Brookville Wood Products and Robbins Logging.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was affiliated with the Greenville Church of the Brethren of Grampian and a member of the Eagles Ridge Golf Club.
He loved his family and his dog, Elmer. He loved doing woodworking and building, being a lumberman, operating his sawmill, golfing and helping others.
On June 19, 1997 in DuBois, he wed the former Stacey Hepfer, who survives, along with his mother of Falls Creek; three children, Barry Allen Altemus Jr. and his wife, Jessica of DuBois, Jill Bott and her husband, Kevin of Georgia and Baylee Jo Sabatine, at home; and 11 grandchildren, Devyn, Ivory, Rylie, Jadyn, Jordyn, Dominic, Donavyn, Michaela, Isabelle, Cecilia and Dawson.
Also surviving are three siblings, Sandy Fisher of Stroudsburg, Russell “Bud” Altemus and his wife, Sherry of Altoona and Robert Altemus of DuBois and three step-siblings, George McManigle of Punxsutawney, Robin Curry of DuBois and Matt McManigle of Brookville.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, William Altemus.
At the request of Mr. Altemus, there will be no public visitation.
A public memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
