Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Hughes, 81, of Osceola Mills died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at her home.
Born March 19, 1936 in Brisbin, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Jean (Sheridan) Rodgers.
She married Leo P. Hughes on Oct. 13, 1956 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Houtzdale. He survives at home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills, where she was the organist for more than 50 years and a member of the Rosary Society.
She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court, St. Victoria Chapter No. 646, in Houtzdale.
She was a homemaker. She was a 1953 graduate of the former Houtzdale-Woodland-Brisbin High School, and she attended the Indiana State Teachers College.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Frances M. Hughes of Metairie, La., Mary Jo Gunter of Tyrone and Jean E. Brooks and her husband, Todd of Manassas Va., and five sons, Martin J. Hughes of Duncansville, Leo P. Hughes Jr. and his wife, Lori of Lakeville, Mass., Joseph G. Hughes and his wife, Jacqueline Hughes, DDS of Chambersburg, Patrick L. Hughes, DMD of Washington, D.C., and Thomas E. Hughes of Williamsport.
She is also survived by two sisters, Rita Kennedy and her husband, Edmund of Williamsport and Judy Crago and her husband, Walt of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; one brother, Patrick Rodgers of Emporium; and 22 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Father Robert J. Horgas, celebrant, and Msgr. Joseph K. Bobal and Father Joseph P. Stascewski co-celebrants. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Osceola Mills.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills.
The Rosary will be recited by the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America at 7:45 p.m. Monday.
