DUBOIS – The Treasure Lake Property Owners Association has decided to sever ties with management at the Treasure Lake Ski Lodge.
A flyer posted at the Ski Lodge said: “To all of our valued customers, with much regret I am sad to announce that we will be closing for good on Sunday, April 30, 2017 due to circumstances beyond our control.
“I, along with my family and staff, thank you so much for the past 16 years. The memories and music will never die. Please visit us at our new home, the Gateway Café in Dubois. Hopefully we will be opening mid-May.” The flyer is signed “George.”
The Treasurer Lake Property Owners Association issued the following press release regarding the situation with the ski lodge:
“The Treasure Lake Property Owners Association Inc., and George Moore Enterprises Inc., collectively, have agreed to end their business relationship after 16 years of GME’s operation of the Treasure Lake Ski Lodge.
“The decision to end TLPOA’s relationship with its long-time tenant of the Ski Lodge was not an easy one; but, after much careful thought and consideration, it was a decision necessary to protect the interests of all Treasure Lake property owners and patrons of the Ski Lodge.
“TLPOA has an obligation to its constituents not only to protect their financial interests, but also to protect their personal safety. While the collective decision to close the Ski Lodge – hopefully only for a temporary time – may be unpopular among property owners and local residents, it is a decision that protects both the pecuniary and personal interests of property owners and guests.
“The continuing operation of the Ski Lodge, while maintaining the status quo under current management, was not in the best interest of the Treasure Lake community.
“The collective decision to end TLPOA’s relationship with its tenant resulted from various concerns. These concerns included, but were not limited to: the tenant’s lease payments being habitually delinquent or outstanding; the tenant having significant lien obligations owed and outstanding to the federal and state governments; the tenant failing to maintain the Ski Lodge premises in a safe and secure condition; and the tenant failing to continually maintain proper insurance coverages for the premises. All of the foregoing concerns could have been alleviated by the tenant; however, contrary to legal obligations to remedy the same, these legitimate concerns continued.
“ In addition, TLPOA understands that GME has already taken significant steps to begin a new food-and-beverage venture in Sandy Township, which venture will maintain many – if not all – of the jobs currently held by Ski Lodge employees. TLPOA wishes success to GME in its future endeavor, and thanks GME for its years of operation of the Treasure Lake Ski Lodge.
“The future of the Ski Lodge has been – and continues to be – under consideration by TLPOA. TLPOA recognizes the importance of the Ski Lodge to Treasure Lake and the surrounding community. A swift, yet intelligent, decision regarding the future of the Ski Lodge is at the forefront of TLPOA’s agenda.
“Events already scheduled for Saturday at the Ski Lodge are expected continue as planned.
“Please be assured that the closing of the Ski Lodge will hold no negative effect on the regular business operations of the other amenities here at Treasure Lake, including but not limited to, the Lakeview Lodge and Conference Center, Duffers’ Tavern, and the 19th Hole Tavern,” said Shirley Elmore, general manager of the TLPOA. “We appreciate all the residents and patrons support throughout the years with all of our amenities and we will continue to make Treasure Lake a wonderful place to reside and visit for many years to come.”
