HYDE — The undefeated Clearfield boys track team was one of two pre-meet favorites, along with Tyrone, but the middle-of-pack girls team was probably a long shot to regular season champion Penns Valley.
Clearfield took the home field advantage and ran with it by sweeping the Mountain League titles at the championship meet at the Bison Sports Complex on Tuesday.
The boys squeezed by Tyrone 151-140 and the girls narrowly defeated Penns Valley 123-118.
The boys won two out of three relays, the 4×100 and the 4×400, and won five individual titles.
Matt Collins broke his own school record in the discus with a spin of 175′ 5″ and was second in the shot put and javelin. Bront Strickland won the 100 meter dash with an 11.61 and Mason Royer won the 110 meter hurdles in 16.25, and was nipped at the wire in the 300 hurdles for a second place finish. Taye Lynch won the triple jump with a leap of 40′ 10″, and Grady Yarger was the javelin winner with a throw of 151′ 4″.
The Clearfield girls also won the 4×100 relay and had a double winner in Mikayle Rebo in the discus (99′ 3″) and javelin (94′ 3″). The other individual winner for the Lady Bison was Katrina Spencer in the 300 hurdles with a 50.84.
The teams will have a week off to recover before they head to St. Marys next Tuesday for their second to last dual meet.
