CURWENSVILLE – The public is invited to an open house at the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc.’s new Meal Production and Distribution Facility from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. April 27.
The facility is located at 600 Cooper Rd., in Curwensville (Industrial Park).
Purchased in 2016 and renovated by local contractors and businesses, this project was finished ahead of time.
Meal production began in October of 2016 from the new facility, which houses the production of approximately 675 meals daily, Monday through Friday.
Moving meal production from a facility in Clearfield into the larger facility in Curwensville allows for a more centralized location.
As a result, more daily hot meals and daily social interaction with the meal drivers is possible. These meals are distributed to homebound elderly in Clearfield and Centre counties through the Meals on Wheels Program and to Centers for Active Living (senior centers).
Features of the new facility include drive-in bays for meals to be loaded into the vans indoors rather than outside in inclement weather at times and an automated system that seals serving trays to keep food fresh and hot until delivery.
There is no charge for the event, and there will be tours of the facility plus light refreshments. There will also be a Clearfield Chamber of Commerce “After Hours” event at the same time allowing business leaders to also tour the facility.
Bulk food is prepared by ‘The Nutrition Group” and the facility is equipped to produce more than 1,000 meals per day.
