Leona (Graham) Van Hoyweghen, 93 years of age, died April 20, 2017. She’d lived in Treasure Lake, DuBois, for the past 31 years and was formerly from Clearfield.
Born Sept. 12, 1923 in Woodland, she was the daughter of the former William and Mabel (Turner) Graham.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in Washington, D.C.
On Jan. 20, 1945, she married Joseph Van Hoyweghen, who was also serving in the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C.
They had a formal uniformed Naval wedding at the Catholic Sacred Heart Cathedral in Washington with the wedding party members also being in full uniform.
After her honorable discharge from the Navy and her husband’s eventual honorable discharge at the end of the war, they relocated to his home state of Michigan. Within a few years, the couple came back to Pennsylvania and spent their entire life here.
During her working years, she had various customer service and secretarial jobs in the Clearfield area.
She loved the outdoors and working in the yard and gardens; but most of all, she always loved having a good book to read. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Joe), who died in 2011; her parents, William and Mabel Graham; her twin brother, Lester; her sister, Helen DeLong Brown; and a childhood sister, Charlotte.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas Trout of Marion, NY, who died in 2013.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Trout of Marion, NY and a son, Joseph (Karen) Van Hoyweghen Jr. of Rockton. She leaves five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. But she will always be remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.
There will be no public viewing. Private funeral and burial arrangements are under the direction of the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., DuBois.
Mrs. Van Hoyweghen’s final resting place is next to her husband in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.
