Robert “Bob” L. Thomas Sr., 88, of Anita, Pa., and formerly of DuBois, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at his home in Anita, Pa.
Born Aug. 20, 1928 in DuBois, he was the son of the late George and Irene (Reasinger) Thomas.
On Sept. 22, 1956, he married Bernice (Albanese) Thomas. She preceded him in death Nov. 3, 2001.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He retired from the Deposit Bank as the head of maintenance after 13 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for 30 years at Hallstrom Construction.
He was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.
He was a life member of the J.E. DuBois Hose Co. No. 3, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 519 and Assembly 2661 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Thomas was a Pennsylvania State Constable where he served as vice president of the state constable organization.
He was a captain of the former DuBois Auxiliary Police, a past president of the Gateway Fair Association and a past member of the DuBois Lions Club.
He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Ruptured Ducks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
He is survived by two children, Robert L. Thomas Jr. and his wife, Susan of Anita, Pa., and Christina G. Mumma and her husband, William of DuBois; four grandchildren, Shirley Dahrouge, Danielle Mozafari, Kirsta White and Billy Mumma; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Olivia Dahrouge.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Chizmar and a brother, James Thomas.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium Inc.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
