CURWENSVILLE – The Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic/Animal Welfare Council (AWC) will hold its annual “Doggone” 5/10K Run/Fun Walk at 8:30 a.m. April 29 at Curwensville Lake.
Packet pick–up will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Dam Pavilion, and the event will consist of a 5K run/walk, a one-mile fun walk and a 10K run. All events are open to people and their dogs.
There is a $20 entry fee for the 5/10K and a $15 entry fee for the one-mile fun walk. Registration forms are available at the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic, 1380 Shawville Hwy., in Woodland (beside the Woodland Post Office), on the AWC Web site: www.animal411.net, the Clearfield YMCA or by e-mailing info@animal411.net.
Participants should pre-register for the event by April 21 to be guaranteed an event T-shirt.
Leashed pets are welcomed and encouraged. All dog owners must have proof of a current rabies vaccine.
Certificates will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in all age groups. The event will take place rain or shine, and the course will cover some wooded trails.
The 10K will repeat the course twice. An awards ceremony will begin one hour and 15 minutes from the start time, and after that, participants can hike by themselves.
There will be water stations at every mile marker, as well as water and fruit at the end. There will also be homemade baked goods and door prizes.
Anyone donating an item from the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic wish list will get an extra door prize ticket. The wish list can be found on the AWC Web site, www.animal411.net.
Items on the wish list include: dog food, cat food/litter, paper towels, stamps, copy paper, envelopes (business size), trash bags (tall and 55-gallon), dog shampoo, dish detergent, antibacterial soap, bleach and betadine/iodine.
There will be a pre-race stretching session; a free gift for all dogs; a DJ providing music; hot dogs; “Be Kind to Animal” T-shirts designed by area youth for sale; photo opportunities; orange bracelets to raise awareness about animal abuse; AWC membership discount cards; an opportunity to make a flower picture using your dog’s paw; and a lot of fun for everyone of all ages.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses or individuals for the event and will help raise much-needed funds to help animals. Anyone wanting to be a sponsor or volunteer to help with the 5/10K should call 814-857-5280.

The “Doggone” 5/10K is being held in conjunction with Curwensville Lake’s Doggie Day. All proceeds from the “Doggone” 5/10K will benefit the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic/AWC, which is a non-profit organization, and local animals in need.
