SHIPPENVILLE — North Clarion standout Tori Obenrader and coach Terry Dreihaup and Port Allegany freshman Cailey Barnett are the major All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com District 9 girls’ basketball award winners for the 2016-17 season.
Curwensville junior Hannah Dixon, who finished fifth in the district in scoring with 437 points for a 19.0 average, was named to the All-District Third Team.
Obenrader, the She-Wolves junior star, is the District 9 Player of the Year, Dreihaup is the Coach of the Year and Barnett is Rookie of the Year.
In addition to the major awards, All-District 9 first, second and third teams were chosen.
Joining Obenrader as first-team All-District are Bradford’s Bri Wells, Coudersport’s Haley Keck, DuBois’ Ashley Hallowell, Karns City’s Emily Hegedus, Otto-Eldred’s Camryn Thomas and Punxsutawney’s Leah Miller. All of them except Wells, who is a senior, are juniors.
Second-team All-District are A-C Valley’s Ellie Thompson, Kane’s Ella Marconi, Keystone’s Taylor Geer, Moniteau’s Kristina DeMatteis and Alazia Greaves and Smethport’s Abbey Woodard.
Third-team All-District are Curwensville’s Hannah Dixon, Karns City’s Mackenzie Craig, Northern Potter’s Kalie Cowburn, Port Allegany’s Autumn Buchsenschutz and Ridgway’s Emily Fullem.
All award winners and all-district performers receive either a plaque or a certificate courtesy of All American Awards & Engraving in Shippenville.
This is the 18th year of the postseason District 9 awards and the 17th they have been housed at D9Sports.com (the first year, 2000, the awards were awarded by the DuBois Tri-County Sunday). It marks the ninth year All American Awards & Engraving has been the title sponsor of the awards.

NOTES – In order to be eligible for the award or the all-district team, a player must participate in at least 70 percent of her team’s games. In order to be eligible for Rookie of the Year, a Player must be either a freshman or a sophomore who saw limited or no time as freshman.
OBENRADER NAMED ALL AMERICAN AWARDS & ENGRAVING PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Obenrader had a fantastic junior season helping North Clarion to a 26-3 record with District 9 Class A, KSAC and KSAC North championships. The She-Wolves advanced to the PIAA Class A quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
On the year, the 5-foot-10 forward averaged 23.5 points, 15.8 rebounds. 3.2 assists per game, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game leading District 9 in scoring and finishing second in rebounding. In seven postseason games, she raised the level of play scoring 26.6 points per game while adding 15.9 rebounds per game. Obenrader also recorded double-doubles in 28 of North Clarion 29 games
including recording at least 15 rebounds 18 times with 20 or more in seven games. She also scored over 40 points twice, including a career-high 42 points to go with 22 rebounds against Clarion.
Obenrader, who shot 51 percent from the field with 53 three-pointers, will enter her senior season already having achieved 1,000 points (1,436) and 1,000 rebounds (1,137) in her career after scoring a school-record 682 points in 2017 to go with 457 rebounds.
She was a first-team All-District 9 player and second-team Class A All-State performer as a sophomore and was the District 9 Rookie of the Year as well as a second-team All-District choice as a freshman.
DREIHAUP COACH OF THE YEAR
In four season at the helm of North Clarion, Dreihaup has turned the She-Wolves into something they never were before: champions.
Prior to winning the KSAC North title in 2016, North Clarion had never won a divisional, conference or district title. Two years later, the She-Wolves have two KSAC North title, a KSAC championship, a District 9 Class A title and a trip to the final eight in the state.
North Clarion was 1-21 in 2013, the year before Dreihaup took over as head coach. Since then, the She-Wolves have shown steady improvement going 6-16 in 2014, 11-12 in 2015, 22-5 in 2016 and 26-3 this year giving Dreihaup a four-year career record of 65-36.
BARNETT ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Barnett had a strong rookie campaign for Port Allegany averaging 12.6 points per game 5.1 rpg for the Lady Gators, who finished 14-11 overall and made the District 9 Class AA semifinals falling a game shy of the PIAA Playoffs.
She scored in double digits 13 times including scoring at least 20 points five times and averaged 14.8 ppg over her final 13 contests.
