Betty Jane Shugarts, 91, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
Born Sept. 26, 1925 in Kylertown, she was the daughter of the late George and Mabel Fye Pearce.
On July 30, 1948 in Kylertown, she wed her loving husband of 68 years William B. Shugarts Sr., who survives at home.
Surviving are daughters, Kate M. Norris and her husband, Mark and Susan Beichner and her husband, Daryl, all of Clearfield, and sons, Robert Lee Shugarts and his wife, Susan of Egg Harbor, NJ and William B. Shugarts Jr. and his wife, Amy and Jeffery B. Shugarts and his wife, Judy, all of Morrisdale.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, George Michael Shugarts; three sisters, June Woodside, Mildred Turner and Vivian Butterworth; and a brother, Glenn Fye. She was the last of her generation.
She was a very active member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Allport, and Centre Hill Grange, Morrisdale. She was also very active in her church’s garden circle. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and feeding her birds.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Allport, with the Rev. James Hollister officiating. Burial will be in the Centre Hill United Methodist Cemetery, Morrisdale.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the church.
