LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – Two tractor-trailers were involved in a crash at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday morning on Interstate 80 westbound at mile-marker 116.2 in Lawrence Township.
According to state police at Clearfield, a tractor-trailer operated by Igor Gjorgjevski of Salt Lake City, Utah was traveling in the right-hand lane at approximately 20 miles per hour without any four-way hazard lights.
At the same time, a tractor-trailer operated by Robert Lowe of Maumee, Ohio was attempting to pass the Gjorgjevski tractor-trailer. However, his tractor-trailer struck the driver’s side rear of Gjorgjevski’s trailer.
Lowe was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona for treatment of his injuries. Lowe’s tractor-trailer sustained disabling damage while Gjorgjevski’s trailer had moderate damage.
Interstate 80 was closed for approximately three hours in order for PennDOT to clean-up the scene. Towing services also assisted with the removal of Lowe’s tractor-trailer.
The Lawrence Township Fire Department Co. 5 also assisted at the scene.
