Jane Ann McDowell, 51, of State College died at home Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 after a long illness.
She was born in Philipsburg to James and Nancy McDowell on Oct. 7, 1965. She attended high school at Philipsburg-Osceola area and graduated in 1984.
She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Penn State University, a Master of Science in adult health from Pace University, Pleasantville NY and her nurse practitioner’s certification from New York University, New York, NY.
Most recently, she worked as a project director for the Penn State School of Nursing. She was previously employed as a nurse practitioner in endocrinology at Mount Nittany Physician’s Group, State College, and in various nursing and nurse educator positions at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, Conn.
She loved reading lots of books, vacationing by the sea, hiking, hanging out with the gardening group and spending time with her entire extended family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Chris Felsmann, son Nate and daughter, Meg.
In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by sisters, Judy Decker (Tim) of Philipsburg and Susan McDowell-Muff (Brian) of Mason, Ohio; brother, Jim (LeeAnn) of Pittsburgh; and nephews, Chris Decker (Theresa) of Bellefonte, Dan Decker of Philipsburg, Brian Muff of Mason, Ohio, Aidan Cleary of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tripp and Noah McDowell of Pittsburgh.
She is also survived by nieces, Holly Foley (Chris) of Philipsburg, Kaitlyn and Emily McDowell-Muff of Mason, Ohio, Kylie Cleary of Colorado Springs, Colo., Shay McDowell of Pittsburgh and Julia, Daisy and Charlotte DeWitt of Branford Conn.; father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Roberta Felsmann of Monroe Conn., and sisters-in-law, Catherine Cleary (Pete) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kara Felsmann of Branford, Conn.; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Presqueisle Street, Philipsburg.
