R. Dean Triponey, 81, of Curwensville entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 at his current residence in Clearfield.
Mr. Triponey was born March 8, 1935 in Glen Richey, a son of the late Lucian F. Triponey and Ruth A. (Luzier) Triponey.
He married M. Joan (Boyle) Triponey on June 3, 1955. She preceded him in death April 15, 2010.
Dean, or “Trip,” was a 1953 graduate of the Clearfield Area High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team coached by the legendary Art Weiss Sr. He graduated as a skilled draftsman and carpenter.
Several of his projects and woodworking pieces remain solid and functional more than 60 years later. He was an ardent outdoorsman, an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling, especially to sunny golfing destinations with his life partner, Joan.
Mr. Triponey dedicated his career to North American Refractories from 1960 until his retirement in 1995. He began as a general laborer in Curwensville and progressed to become plant manager in Renton, Wash., Gary, Ind., and Curwensville.
He was a faithful member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church and over the years served on its board of trustees and administrative board.
Mr. Triponey was a life member of the Curwensville Rescue, Hose and Ladder Co. He served on the Curwensville Borough Council and the Clearfield County Vocational Technical Advisory Board.
He was also a long-time member of the Grandview Golf Club.
He’s survived by two daughters, Carrie J. Triponey of Curwensville and Vicky L. Triponey, PhD., and her husband, Michael R. Meacham, J.D., of Charleston, SC; one brother, Russell Triponey and his wife, Marlyn of Clearfield; numerous nieces and nephew; and grand-dog, Shadow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; brothers, Elmer, Ernest and Eugene Triponey and sisters, Hilda Bailey, Betty Clark, Mary Jacobson, Gertrude Painter and Ester Shubert.
Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Dr. Robert Ludrowsky officiating. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday and from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
