FLINTON – The Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team traveled to Flinton Friday night to open the 2016-17 season in a Moshannon Valley League (MVL) contest against the Lady Vikings of Glendale.
It was game one for Lady Tide new head coach Jocelyn Bash, and although victory didn’t come Curwensville’s way the Tide played well at times during the battle.
In a hotly contested first half, Glendale took a 17-15 intermission lead and would then outscore the Lady Tide over the last two frames 20-12 to earn the win.
Sophomore Madison Weber led all scorers with 12, while Lady Tide teammate Hannah Dixon, a senior, had 10.
Christine Limbert and Nikki Wormuth, two other Lady Tide seniors had a big night on the boards, with Limbert hauling down 14 rebounds and Wormuth 11.
Meghan Knepps paced the Lady Vikings’ offense with 11 points.
Glendale made it a clean sweep on the evening, defeating the Lady Tide junior varsity team 34-13.
Curwensville is on the road again for its next game, another MVL contest, on Monday, traveling to play Moshannon Valley.
