It has been said that Kirk Douglas is all that remains of Hollywood’s so-called Golden Age. Having outlived the greats among which he’s often ranked — like Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable — it’s a hard point to argue against.
It’s a distinction, however, that is not easily earned.
In Douglas’ case, his long life and career has been filled with great triumphs (like his three Academy Awards) and heartbreaking tragedies (like the 2004 death of his son Eric).
