CLEARFIELD – Another record crowd attended the 2016 Ales for Tails craft beer-tasting event this past Saturday and watched as Jamie Owens was awarded the “Best of Show” in the Top Dog Home-brewer Competition.
His American Ale titled “General Cluster Pale Ale” scored an impressive 92 out of 100 points from the judges’ combined scores. The crowd sampled more than 50 craft beers that were made available by West Side Distributing.
“This is one of our major fundraising initiatives, so I am thrilled that it continues to grow each year,” said Carolyn Smeal, event coordinator.
Incorporating the Home-brew Competition is definitely a draw for the local home-brewers. Blind judging was provided by Rohb Striker from Race Street Brew Works, Charlie Schnable and Chris Brugger from Otto’s Pub and Brewery and Darrell Smeal from Misty River Brewing Company.
This year’s event also included wine from Bee Kind Winery and artisan cheeses and pretzels. Shannon’s Catering from DuBois catered the meal.
Other medals awarded were gold medals – Dan Fatula of DuBois (1) and Jamie Owens of Coatesville (2) and silver medals – Chuck Sidelinger of DuBois (2), Christina Pisani-Conway of DuBois (1), Dan Fatula (2) and Jamie Owens (1).
