DuBois – The district four gold pin club held their annual fall classic Sunday afternoon at the DuBois Lanes with Ryan Mitskavich of DuBois and Cameron Spring of Allegany, New York picking up their second straight wins. Twenty-seven bowlers (18 boys & 9 girls) took to the lanes for a three game qualifying set with the top seven bowlers in each class competing in the bracket roll off system.
Antonio Willar of DuBois (674) and Krissa Lichvarcik of Rockton (570) were the top qualifiers and received a first round bye and a donated double ball bowling for their efforts.
The first round of the roll offs saw Spring, Melia Mitskavich of DuBois, and Allison Beimel of Kersey picking up the wins on the girls side while Mitskavich, Brandon Orsich of Clearfield, and Dalton Doverspike of DuBois scoring the first round wins.
The semi-finals saw Spring knocking off the number one seed Lichvarcik 200-160 while Beimel edged out Melia Mitskavich 185-182. The boy’s side saw Ryan Mitskavich spare in his first frame and then rolled the next 11 strikes in a row in route to a 290-226 win over the top seeded Willar. Doverspike dumped Orsich in the other semi 219-146.
The finals had Spring outscoring Beimel by a 231-147 score with Mitskavich holding off Doverspike by a score of 205-188. Lichvarcik top the third place match over Melia Mitskavich 188-168 while Orsich took a 220-176 win over Willar in the boy’s third place match. Others making the roll offs included Renee Nedza, Makayla Nicastro, Kadin Danch, and Anthony Manning of DuBois, Megrah Suhan of Brookville, and Bart Snyder of Olean, New York.
Tournament director, Don Barr, announced that the spring tournament for the club will be held in late March or early April in Clearfield. Barr also stated a doubles tournament for club members and non-members will be held on January 15, 2017 at the Philipsburg Super Bowl. The Bellefonte Lanes also sent a representative to the fall tournament, and Barr is looking to add bowlers from Indiana, State College, and Altoona.
