CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County is currently accepting applications for affordable housing projects, announced Jodi Brennan, county planning and community development director, at Tuesday’s commissioners’ meeting.
The projects will be funded by the Affordable Housing Fund. The county is seeking projects to increase the availability of quality, affordable housing – sales or rentals – to any county resident whose annual income is less than the median.
The types of projects to be considered for funding include owner-occupied rehabilitation, rental rehabilitation, first-time home buyers programs, housing counseling programs, emergency repair programs, elderly, special needs and disabled housing, veterans housing, new home construction, land banks, transitional housing, homeless shelters, community stabilization programs, foreclosure prevention, emergency rental assistance and bridge loans for rental housing development.
According to Brennan, the funds can be used to match federal, state and or local program funds for affordable housing projects in Clearfield County. Eligible applicants include municipal governments, housing and or redevelopment authorities or other related agencies, non-profits or developers. “Individuals are not eligible,” she said.
Since the program was established in 2012, more than $289,000 has been awarded to fund local affordable housing projects. In addition, these county Affordable Housing Trust funds have leveraged an additional $317,000 in supporting match funds for a total local investment of more than $606,000.
Program guidelines and applications are available by contacting the Clearfield County Planning and Community Development Office, 212 E. Locust St., Suite 128, Clearfield PA, 16830 or by calling 814-765-5149.
All applications are due at the county’s planning and community development office by 4 p.m. Dec. 30.
