CLEARFIELD – Libraries are for so much more than just books.
At Thursday’s Clearfield Borough Council meeting, Jodi Addleman, Kevin Stebits and Jayme Stonbraker showcased some of the features the Shaw Public Library.
Addleman said she had wanted to make her presentation last month for is National Library Card Sign-up month. However, she said residents can still sign up for a library card at any time.
Addleman said one of the new features the library offers is the Overdrive app, which allows library users to access the library from their homes. She said library users enter their library card numbers, so they can reserve and read books and take advantage of other services.
Addleman said the app provides the ability for the users to download books directly to their devices, such as a Kindle or a Nook. The books remain on the device for three weeks, so the library patrons do not have to worry about returning the books to the library.
In addition to books, the group said the library offers many services, such as job searching and resume preparation; access to databases; movie rentals and a meeting place for groups and tutors.
Addleman, Stebits and Stonbraker thanked the council for their continued support of the library.
Also at the meeting, the council approved a grant for the library through the Department of Education Office of Commonwealth Libraries in the amount of $64,000.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott explained that the library had to go through the municipality in order to apply for the grant. The matching funding required for the grant has been set by the library’s board of directors.
