CLEARFIELD – A seat on the Clearfield Borough Council has been declared vacant following the death of a council member.
At Thursday’s meeting, the council voted to vacate the seat for Second Ward representative Dave Gallaher.
Gallaher passed away Sept. 24. Residents of the Second Ward area who are interested in serving as a member of the council are encouraged to apply in the borough office.
The council will also be placing advertisements seeking interested residents. Once appointed, the applicant will serve out the remainder of Gallaher’s term.
Also at the meeting, Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack encouraged residents to do what they can to prevent flooded roads. Mack asked the residents who live near storm drains to take a few minutes to clear leaves and debris from the top of storm drains.
He said there were issues Thursday night with drains becoming clogged due to leaves and the fire department had to be dispatched.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said the borough street crew is doing as much as they can to stay ahead of the leaf pick-up but anything the residents can do will help.
Stott then said that UMCOR is expecting to complete their work in assisting the residents with flood repairs by the end of the month. She said that every resident that requested assistance has received it at no cost. All expenses were taken care of by both UMCOR and the Southern Baptist Relief teams.
About 225 homes in Clearfield Borough had received flood damages following a major storm incident June 2-3.
