Barry Albert Selner, 71, of Curwensville died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born Oct. 26, 1944 in Clearfield, a son of the late Albert W. ‘Benny’ and LoDema ‘Dema’ (Irwin) Selner.
Mr. Selner earned his Master of Science in education and was employed for many years as a math and science teacher with the Curwensville Area School District.
During that time, he was a football, wrestling and baseball coach. He also served as a Curwensville Borough Councilman.
He attended First Baptist Church, Curwensville. He also enjoyed genealogy, leather work, woodworking and stained glass work.
He is survived by his daughter, Della Selner of Scotland, Pa., and children, Lauren Kirkpatrick and Katherine O’Hara; his son, Greg Selner of DuBois and children, Danielle Schuler and her husband, David, Nicholas Selner and his wife, Nicole, Benjamin Selner and his fiancé, Amber Bundy and Sara Selner; and his daughter, Kristen Albert and her husband, Marcus of Dachau, Germany and their children, Stephan and Isabelle Albert.
He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Victor M. Oquendo III, Abigail and Jack Schuler and Rylee Selner; a brother, Larry A. Selner of Curwensville; a brother-in-law, Richard Lansberry of Greenwood, Ind., and daughter, Terri Barrett; a sister-in-law, Charlotte ‘Tod’ Selner of Keenesborough, Colo., and children Mike and Craig Selner and Lynelle Vogel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, N. Kay (Bartell) Selner, on April 23, 2012 and to whom he was wed Nov. 23, 1965 in Cumberland, Md.; a brother, Gary A. Selner; and a niece, Darlene Lansberry.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville, with the Rev. Daniel M. Osterhout officiating.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
