Retha I. Lupro, 94, of DuBois died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 21, 1921 in Weedville (Gardner Hill), she was the daughter of the late James B. and Jennie (Taylor) Beck.
She was a graduate of the Bennetts Valley High School.
In 1941, she joined the Women’s Naval Reserve (WAVES) in World War II and was honorably discharged with a communications specialist rating in 1946.
She was married to Lewis Lupro in June of 1946. He preceded her in death in July of 1976.
She was employed at GTE/Sylvania in Emporium, retiring from the cost accounting department after 32 years of service.
She relocated to DuBois in 1990, where she became active in the DuBois Nursing Home Auxiliary, serving as president for several years. She also served as an officer of the local AARP chapter for several years.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and she was a proud charter supporter of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation Inc.
She was a member of the Weedville Wesleyan Church. She loved traveling and toured extensively in Europe, Israel, the Caribbean and throughout the United States and Canada.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Lupro of DuBois and Sandra (Lupro) Bosnik and her husband, James of San Diego, Calif.
Also surviving are three granddaughters, all of whom live in Texas, Kalli Landua and her husband, John of Houston; Nicole Antalis of Austin and Molly Antalis of Carrollton. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Clifford and Glenn Beck and two sisters, Viola Beck Reed and Arabelle Beck Reed.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Weedville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Bryon Kleppinger officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church.
Burial will be in Newton Cemetery in Emporium.
