FX is signing up for more horror stories.
The network announced Tuesday it has ordered a seventh installment of ‘American Horror Story,’ the anthology series from co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
The new season will air next year.
“Ryan, Brad and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping ‘American Horror Story’ endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment,” network president John Landgraf said in a statement. “The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style.”
The news comes just a few weeks after “American Horror Story” premiered Season 6, a uniquely approached tale starring Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding, Jr.
The theme for the new season had been kept strictly under wraps and was not revealed to viewers until it aired on TV.
The marketing scheme was seemingly a success. The premiere stands as the third most-watched telecast in FX Networks history in the 18-34 demographic.
To date, the premiere of “AHS: Roanoke” has garnered 13.01 million across multiple platforms, according to the network.
“American Horror Story,” which debuted in 2011, has largely been credited for kicking off a renewed appreciation for TV anthologies.
FX now has four — “Fargo,” Murphy’s “American Crime Story” and the forthcoming “Feud” are the others. HBO has “True Detective,” ABC has “American Crime” and Starz has “The Girlfriend Experience.”
