CLEARFIELD – Plans are under way for this year’s SPCA Ales for Tails event, which will again feature the “Top Dog Home Brewer Competition.”
Last year’s sold-out event hosted the first competition in the area. Home brewers from Clearfield, DuBois, Reynoldsville and Coatesville entered the competition for a chance to be judged by three master brewers.
Judges for the competition are being finalized, and awards will be given for each class with a special ‘Top Dog’ trophy awarded to the “Best of Show.”
There is a $10 entry fee per category and a limit of one entry per category. Brews will be pre-judged prior to the event, and awards will be presented at the Ales for Tails fundraiser.
This year’s event will be held Nov. 12, from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Clearfield.
For more information on the “Top Dog Home brewer Competition,’ rules, entry forms and drop-off locations, please watch for the “Ales for Tails” event button on the SPCA Web site at www.clearfieldcountyspca.org.
The Clearfield County SPCA, a 501(c) organization, operates solely on donations and fundraising. The annual calendar contest and Ales for Tails are the two, largest fundraising initiatives this year.
With the continued cost of operating expenses, the fundraising events help the SPCA to provide a valuable service to the people of Clearfield and surrounding communities.
Event organizer and board member Carolyn Smeal has high hopes for this year’s event, as it continues to grow.
The “major sponsor” West Side Distributing provided a large, variety of beer for sampling. Live music, food vendors and a meal deal will be included with the ticket price.
