Clair L. Rowles, 98, of Pine Top died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 at his home. Mr. Rowles was born Feb. 6, 1918 in Mineral Springs, the son of Chance and Mabel (Brown) Rowles.
He had retired from Butler Trucking after 25 years of service. Mr. Rowles was affiliated with the Lake Street United Methodist Church of Woodland and the Wesleyan Faith Holiness Church of Bigler.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who had served during World War II in the Seventh Division Field Artillery as a radio operator in Okinawa, Japan.
He is survived by two children, Margaret Ogden of Pine Top and Larry Rowles and his wife, Kim of Clearfield and three grandchildren, Azriell Ogden and her companion, Andy McGovern and Ryan Rowles and Matthew Rowles and his wife, Sara.
He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Gage McGovern and Weston and Cullen Rowles; two sisters and a brother, Mary Rowles and Gerald Rowles, both of Clearfield, and Nancy Maines of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis (Undercofler) Rowles, to whom he was married July 23, 1953 in Cumberland, Md.; two grandchildren, Alison and Gabriel Ogden; two sisters, Mildred and Lorriane; and five brothers, Robert, Paul, Frederick, Elwood and Wayne.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with Pastor Rex Evans officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.
