CLEARFIELD – Children’s Aid Society in Clearfield County has achieved renewal of Hague Accreditation through the Council on Accreditation (COA) as authorized by the U.S. Department of State.
The Hague Convention is an international treaty created to ensure that intercountry adoptions are in the best interests of children and to prevent abduction, exploitation, sale or trafficking of children.
The Intercountry Adoption Act (IAA) serves as the implementing legislation for the United States and the Department of State serves as the monitoring body for adoption service providers.
The IAA requires agencies providing adoption services for families adopting from countries party to the convention to be accredited or approved. Currently, only 10 agencies in Pennsylvania have achieved this accreditation.
Children’s Aid Society provides adoption services in 16 counties in Pennsylvania and is an affiliate of the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN). They help facilitate private/domestic, international and SWAN adoptions for prospective adoptive families.
