Herman R. Wheeler Jr., 56, of Killeen, Texas died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Methodist University Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
Mr. Wheeler was born Feb. 8, 1960 in Norfolk, Va., the son of Herman R. Wheeler Sr., and Phoebe (Hobgood) Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler served in the infantry of the U.S. Army, retiring June 30, 1995 as an E7. He then went to work for McLane Southwest, Temple, Texas, retiring Jan. 29, 2016.
He was Baptist by Faith.
Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Clearfield VFW, the Texas Moose, the Georgia American Legion and the NRA. He enjoyed going to NASCAR races.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda (Welker) Wheeler, to whom he was married Nov. 2, 1985 at Fort Hood Chapel, Killeen, Texas.
He is also survived by a daughter, Bethany Wheeler of Peoria, Ariz.; two grandsons, Charles Speziale and Evan Raymond; a sister, Kathryn Perkinson of Madison Heights, Va.; a brother, James Wheeler and his girlfriend, Lela of Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Ann Dunman; and an infant sister, Deborah Gay Wheeler.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Clare L. Pannebaker officiating.
Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
