Ivanka Trump said Tuesday that sexual harassment in any setting was “inexcusable,” seeking to tamp down the controversy created by her father and brother Eric’s comments on the issue.
“I think harassment in general, regardless, sexual or otherwise, is totally inexcusable and if it transpires it needs to be reported and it needs to be dealt with on a company level,” Trump said during a one-on-one interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren on “On The Record”.
“We have a very strong HR team at the Trump Organization, who is equipped to deal with these issues if they arise and you hope they never arise, you hope you have a culture in which they don’t arise, but when they do it needs to be dealt with swiftly,” she said.
Eric Trump said earlier Tuesday that his sister was a “strong” and “powerful” woman who would never allow herself to be sexually harassed by her boss in an interview aired on “CBS This Morning”.
The comments were made while the panel was discussing the alleged sexual harassment of female employees by former Fox News head Roger Ailes and follow Donald Trump saying that Ivanka would “find another career or find another company” if she found herself in a similar situation.
Ivanka Trump also responded to the backlash her father has received after saying he was “viciously attacked” by the parents of fallen US solider Capt. Humayun Khan at the Democratic National Convention.
“Well, you know I think my father shared his thoughts,” Trump said. “Capt. Khan was an American hero, there’s no argument on that fact and everyone respects his sacrifice for this country enormously.”
The interview touched on Trump’s experiences with negative media coverage, her friendship with Chelsea Clinton, as well as whether she may someday run for public office.
“No gosh, I don’t think so,” she said. “It’s tough. You know, I think I appreciate very much the platform and the ability to impact and create change at the highest level. You know there are certain issues I am so deeply passionate as a woman in the workforce … but running for public office is something I don’t want to be doing.”
