CLEARFIELD – Two people arrested after the “Operation Ice Storm” drug investigation were scheduled for sentencing in Clearfield County Court Tuesday.
Frederick Oddo, 46, 226 Jefferson St., Brookville, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty before Judge Paul E. Cherry to person not to possess firearms, F2, and two counts of sales/transfer of firearms, M2. He was sentenced to two to four years in state prison.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Dave Gorman stated that Oddo cooperated with the investigation and testified before the grand jury about his involvement. Oddo was charged for selling a firearm to Robert Selfridge, who was allegedly selling methamphetamine in the area.
John Jay Pentz, 33, 205 E. Washington Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to criminal use of communication facility, F3, and manufacture or sale of a non-controlled substance with similarity to controlled substance, an ungraded felony. He was sentenced by Cherry to 90 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. Pentz must also complete 50 hours of community service.
Due to the felony charges, both men must submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.
Prior to sentencing, Pentz’s attorney, Douglas Campbell, commented that Pentz had only a minor prior record. Gorman stated that Pentz has been incarcerated since March 24 and has already served his minimum sentence.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Pentz sold another substance to a confidential informant, claiming it was methamphetamine.
“Operation Ice Storm” involved the arrests of 30 people in March for their connection with a drug ring that was selling methamphetamine and heroin in the area, according to previously published reports.
The arrests were the result of a year-long investigation that involved the DuBois City and Sandy Township police departments, the Clearfield County Drug Task Force, the District Attorney and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
