Hillary Clinton secured the Democratic presidential nomination this week, but polls suggest she still has room to grow in terms of her favorability, trustworthiness and likeability. According to a CNN/ORC poll conducted in June, nearly 6-in-10 voters view both Clinton and her rival, Republican nominee Donald Trump, unfavorably.
As she moves to unite the Democratic Party, CNN Politics asked Democrats at the party convention if they had any advice for how Clinton could work on her appeal. (And not just being “likeable enough,” as then-Sen. Barack Obama said during a debate in 2008.) Democrats emphasized that she needs to work on being herself, staying focused on issues and keeping promises she made to progressives who supported Bernie Sanders.
