UNION TOWNSHIP – State police at DuBois investigated an accidental shooting that occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday at a Union Township residence.
According to state police, a 54-year-old male went to reach for his .22-caliber rifle. It was propped up against the wall behind a chair. However, he slipped and fell, causing the rifle to go off.
The male was struck just below his left breast, state police said. He was trying to get his rifle in order to shoot groundhogs that have been a problem on his property.
The male had emergency surgery and is in stable condition, according to state police.
