CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC) has been recognized as one of 35 Pennsylvania downtowns to be named a “Nationally Accredited Program” by the National Main Street Center.
To be recognized as a 2016 National Main Street Program, the CRC must meet the 10 revitalization performance standards set by the National Trust Main Street Center.
“Receiving National Main Street Accreditation is seen as a prominent recognition and the CRC wishes to congratulate the Clearfield community for this achievement and for its continued support of our program,” said Loretta Wagner, CRC Main Street manager.
“The Main Street program plays a strategic role in stimulating economic development and community involvement within Clearfield.”
Established in 1980, the National Trust Main Street Center helps communities of all sizes revitalize their older and historic commercial districts and is one of the most successful economic development strategies in America.
The National Trust Main Street Center has only recognized 35 Main Street programs across the entire state of Pennsylvania.
“Accredited Main Street programs create vibrant communities by using a comprehensive strategy to preserve their historic character and revitalize their commercial districts, which helps make these great places to work, live, play and visit,” said Patrice Frey, president and chief executive officer of the National Main Street Center.
Since its inception, the CRC has generated more than $520,695 of public and private investment from the Facade Improvement Program, hosted 16 successful events to promote local business and downtown Clearfield and secured grant funding for new trees, streetscape items, American flags and banners for downtown.
The CRC has recorded more than 27,000 adult volunteer hours from community members and more than 700 hours from student volunteers. In the past two years, the CRC has had a CRC Youth Council to keep students engaged in the community.
The CRC has received National Accreditation for six straight years and has also won a Pennsylvania State Townie Award for the CRC Facade Improvement Grant Program.
Wagner said of the local community, “Your partnerships, sponsorships and volunteerism are making it happen! Thank you, Clearfield, for your passion to keep improving our town!”
