CLEARFIELD – Residents in Lawrence Township are reminded of smoke testing in the township planned for July 25 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
If it is raining that day, or the ground becomes saturated before the test date, the testing may be postponed.
The testing will be done in the areas of Pleasant Lane, Crescent Drive, Overlook Drive, Joseph Road, Parkview Road and Dairy Lane.
The purpose is to locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. The smoke is non-toxic, non-staining and does not have odor.
It will appear white or gray in color and does not pose a fire hazard. It should not enter the home unless there is defective plumbing or dried up drain traps.
Residents are advised to pour a gallon of water into each drain trap of floors, sinks, showers and tubs prior to testing.
Stiffler McGraw & Associates will be conducting the tests and advises if smoke enters the home sewer, gases may also be entering the home or business.
If you see smoke, contact the work crew outside or call the Lawrence Township office and ventilate it by opening doors and windows.
Smoke may appear through the vent pipe in the roof of a home and may also appear around the foundation or in house gutters depending on the condition and type of sewer connection.
If anyone living in a home or working at a business has respiratory problems and is immobile, notify the township at 814-765-0176 or 814-765-4551 prior to July 25. Pets should also not be exposed to the smoke.
Address all questions and concerns to the Lawrence Township office.
