Nancy C. Smeal, 79, of Houtzdale died Monday, July 18, 2016 at her residence.
Born Nov. 12, 1936 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of Samuel F. and Carol L. (McKissick) McKay. She was of the Protestant faith.
She was a 1954 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School. She was a farmer, a homemaker and a seamstress. She had worked for Kent’s Sportswear and Centre Engineering. She enjoyed sewing.
On Sept. 29, 1956 at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Chester Hill, she married LeRoy C. Smeal, who died April 15, 2009. They were married by the Rev. David Wilkerson.
Surviving are seven children, Debrah Dufour and her husband, Rich of Osceola Mills, James P. Smeal and his wife, Lori of Ginter, Lisa Richardson and her husband, Rick of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jennifer Hite of Mechanicsville, Va., Charles L. Smeal II and Samuel R. Smeal, both of Houtzdale, and Douglas Smeal and his wife, Dawn of Schuylkill Haven.
Surviving are 15 grandchildren, Samantha Koepsell and her husband, Brian, Curt Wilkinson and his wife, Jill, Kenny Kephart, Sara Zimmerman and her husband, Dustin, Lance Kephart and his wife, Alison, Ashley Kephart and her companion, Trevor Coleman, Ian Dufour and his wife, Lindsey, Whitney Diven and her husband, Jimmy, Zachary Henahan, Logan Henahan, Sadie Hite, Mason Smeal, Nolan Smeal, Tyler Yarger and Samantha Yarger and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Samuel McKay of Osceola Mills, David McKay and his wife, Linda of Deltona, Fla., and Michael “Tuck” McKay and his wife, Darlene of Penfield and a sister, Mary Wynne McKay and her companion, Tub Casher of Ferwood.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Thompson; a brother, Mark “Nip” McKay; a sister-in-law, Gerri McKay; and a brother-in-law, Pat Thompson.
A public funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, with her son, James P. Smeal officiating. Per her request, there will be no public viewing.
Burial will be at the Baughman Cemetery, Sanborn.
