CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield American Legion baseball team is going to the Region 7 Tournament after all.
Manager Sid Lansberry was informed that State College had been disqualified from the Central Penn League Playoffs for having players in its lineup who were not on the official roster posted on The American Legion’s national website.
State College had advanced unscathed through the winner’s bracket and would have locked up a trip to the region tourney with regular season champion Beech Creek’s 9-0 win over the Chiefs in the elimination bracket final on Monday.
That now stands as the 2016 CPL Playoffs title game.
Region and state officials made the ruling that resulted in the Chiefs being awarded the CPL’s No. 2 entry to the double-elimination Region 7 tourney that runs through next Wednesday.
Cambria County League regular season champion Bedford (19-1) is the region tourney host
Clearfield (14-8) will open against the Cambria County League No. 2 seed Claysburg (20-5) Saturday at noon at Everett.
