DUBOIS – Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a DuBois man who allegedly threatened and assaulted employees at a local hospital.
Joshua M. Langley, 21, was also charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment by DuBois City police as a result of his actions May 24 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called to the hospital for a report of an out of control patient assaulting staff.
When police arrived there were more than 20 staff members surrounding another eight or 10 staff members who were holding Langley down. When he calmed down, they moved him to his bed and applied soft restraints.
Witnesses told police Langley became both verbally and physically aggressive with the staff. He was yelling, screaming and disrupting the entire Intensive Care Unit and the patients. A “Code Gray” was used to make other staff members in the hospital aware of the situation and to get them to respond to the ICU.
Langley allegedly swore at female staff members and challenged the males by yelling “it’s going to take a lot more than all of you to take me down!”
While one staff member was attempting to calm Langley, Langley smacked the victim’s hand away. This victim saw Langley close his hand to make a fist, police said. The victim was able to wrap his arms around Langley’s and prevented him from assaulting anyone.
Langley then allegedly overpowered this man and took him to the ground. There was a short struggle and it took several other staff members to restrain Langley, according to the report.
After Langley was returned to the bed and the restraints were used on him, the victim received medical attention for pain in his back, shoulder, and ankle. He was also suffering from a headache.
Langley’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 29.
