Stewart M. Dunsmore, 94, of Philipsburg died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
Born Nov. 15, 1921, he was a son of the late Robert H. and Grace A. (Ashcroft) Dunsmore. He was a 1939 graduate of Philipsburg High School.
He was a businessman and had worked at the former Puttman & Green and former Piper Aircraft. A veteran of the Army Air Corp, he served during World War II.
Mr. Dunsmore was a life member of the Philipsburg VFW Louis P. Jenkins Post 3450 and the Philipsburg B.P.O. Elk Lodge 1173. He was also a member of the Philipsburg AMVETS Post 159.
He loved to go camping and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball.
On Jan. 18, 1947 in Williamsport, he married Dorothy (Brumbaugh) Dunsmore, who died March 13, 2006.
He is survived by a daughter, Marlene Potter and her husband, Michael of Philipsburg and two sons, Stewart C. Dunsmore and his long-time companion, Barb Wilson of Philipsburg and William B. Dunsmore and his long-time companion, Kathy McMaster of Bellefonte.
Mr. Dunsmore is survived by nine grandchildren, Jamie, Josh and his wife, Dana, Jeremy and his wife, Colette, Sara, Erin, Samuel, Alex, Ellen and Zachary and five great-grandchildren, Daija, Jayden, Olivia, Jace and Nolan.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Jean Dunsmore; a grandson, Jesse; two sisters, Alice Brand and Jean Taylor; a half-sister, Margaret Dunsmore; three brothers, Harry A. Dunsmore, Robert M. “Mac” Dunsmore and William T. Dunsmore; and two half-brothers, Gordon Dunsmore and Lorraine “Boots” Dunsmore.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. An Elks memorial service will also be held at 2:30 p.m.
Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
