Bridge to be replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership
HUSTON TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project continues in Clearfield County with the reconstruction of a bridge in Huston Township.
Replacing the bridge will provide motorists with a new, modern structure that makes travel safer and more efficient. The Route 255 (Bennetts Valley Highway) bridge (JV 41) spans Bennett Branch near the village of Penfield.
Construction is expected to begin the week of June 20, with final completion expected in early November. The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
During construction, drivers will encounter one lane of traffic alternating in each direction controlled by temporary traffic signals. Dating from 1930, the 45-foot bridge carries an average of more than 4,200 vehicles each day.
This bridge replacement is part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a Public-Private Partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP) under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years.
The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
