A 48-year-old Goshen man, Craig Shomo, is being treated in Danville after being bitten by a venomous snake, according to Mickey Moore, who was hunting with him Saturday.
Moore said they had been hunting in the Chestnut Ridge Road area off of Knobbs Road in Girard/Goshen, Clearfield County, when they came across several snakes.
He didn’t see Shomo get bitten but heard him yell out “hey, I got hit.” They were in an area without cell service but able to call 911 after walking about a half-mile.
Emergency personnel were dispatched, and they met an ambulance at the Sapp Bros. Truck Stop. From there, he said Shomo was taken to DuBois and eventually to Pittsburgh.
According to Moore, Shomo received treatment and was released from Pittsburgh. However, upon coming home, his condition worsened and he had severe swelling.
Shomo was taken to the Clearfield Penn Highlands Hospital from which he was flown to Danville for further anti-venom treatment on Monday, Moore said.
Moore has been in contact with Shomo’s family and said his condition has improved since his hospitalization.
