HYDE — Clearfield American Legion Post 6 right-hander Brandon Orsich authored a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts in shutting out Philipsburg 8-0 at the Bison Sports Complex junior varsity field Wednesday evening.
Two-run singles by Will Myers and Zane Morgan and pairs of hits by Seth Bumbarger and Reese Wilson keyed the offense as the Chiefs leveled their Central Penn League record at 1-1.
Orsich slammed the door on the Phils after Josh Earnest lined a single over shortstop and Landon McDonald dropped down a perfectly-placed bunt to the right side to start the game.
The Phils’ only other baserunner was McDonald, who was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.
Orsich struck out the side in the third frame and fanned two Phils in every other inning except the sixth.
Clearfield got to Earnest for three runs with two outs in the second inning.
Ty Bender ripped a double over third base and came around to score on two wild pitches as Jake Sorbera was drawing a walk. Bumbarger then bounced a single up the middle and, following a passed ball, Myers chased both runners home with his clutch hit.
Bumbarger triggered another three-run rally in the fifth by slicing a single to right field. After Wilson doubled to deep center and Thayne Morgan walked to load the bases, with pinch-runner Bryce Timko to third base, and he scored easily on a wild pitch and Zane Morgan made it 6-0 with his hit through the right side.
Wyatt Porter and Alec Graham opened the sixth inning with singles off Cam Domblisky and crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Wilson’s single, respectively.
The Chiefs will travel to Lewistown Friday to meet Mifflin County.
