Donald Trump hammered Hillary Clinton on Friday for condemning his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., calling her criticism “absolutely dumb” and saying the former Secretary of State is “ill-equipped” for the presidency.
On Fox News’ “Fox and Friends,” Trump was asked to respond to Clinton, who told CNN Thursday that Trump wasn’t qualified to be president and hit his plan to bar Muslims temporarily from coming to the U.S. as sending a “message of disrespect.”
“Is that the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard? I mean to me, it’s one of the dumber statements I’ve ever heard. I mean, she is so ill-equipped to be the president,” Trump said.
Asked to elaborate why Clinton’s remarks were “dumb,” Trump continued, “I just think it is absolutely dumb — in fact, if anything, it’s just the opposite. Because they’re going to have to learn that we can’t take this anymore.”
“I have many Muslim friends, and they agree they have a tremendous problem with the radical Islamic terrorism, and what she said is so dumb,” he added.
Trump also dismissed speculation about his vice presidential search when the discussion turned to Newt Gingrich, whose name has come up as a potential Trump running-mate.
Asked if Gingrich is on the VP shortlist, Trump said, “Absolutely, I’ll say yes because he’s been such a supporter. I mean anybody who supports me is on the shortlist.”
