North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers, a Republican who has endorsed Donald Trump, said Wednesday she doesn’t condone the real estate mogul’s past comments about women but still believes he is the best candidate for female voters.
“Women are ready for a problem solver. Someone who gets results. All of these things are just really, just going by the wayside,” she said on CNN’s “New Day.”
“Women are pragmatic and they want answers. They want solutions. They don’t have time for the outside remarks and innuendo and the stories that are going to come out over time. They want to see results. They want to get their country back.”
Priorities USA, the big money pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC, will begin airing general election ads Wednesday that use Trump’s past comments to cast the presumptive Republican nominee as anti-woman.
“Do I condone any of those comments? Absolutely not,” Ellmers said in response to questions about the ads from CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “I would be offended by them if he said them about me.”
But Ellmers said that those comments are no longer relevant.
“The problem here isn’t about what Donald Trump has done in the past. It’s about a vision for the future. And the American people see that this is someone who is forward thinking and who will get this economy moving again,” she said.
