CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors heard from a resident of Nelson Road concerning a damaged water meter.
John Haight stated that, during February, a township plow truck hit his water meter and he now owes for a new meter and the cost of 8,000 gallons of water.
He was in Florida at the time and got a call about it later. Someone from Clearfield Municipal Authority repaired the break. Haight said he knows mistakes happen but wants the township to pay the bill.
The supervisors questioned whether it was one of the township plows. Supervisor Bill Lawhead said that when the road is being plowed, and the plow comes down hill, the meters are on the other side of the road and in the woods and wouldn’t be hit.
Haight said the township plows snow off of the road along there; however, Lawhead replied that is not the case and said he has been supervisor since 2000 and has done his share of plowing and knows they do not.
Roadmaster Ron Woodling took pictures of the damaged area four months later, which was when the township was notified of the problem. He and Secretary Barb Shaffner said no one notified the township at the time of the incident and no one reported excessive ice on the road either.
Haight suggested they could call CMA and find out who did the repair work. Solicitor Jim Naddeo also suggested putting the township’s liability carrier on notice and see if it would be covered. Shaffner will contact CMA and the supervisors made no decision.
Residents are reminded that, with warmer weather, all swimming pools need to have permits and be inspected as part of the township’s building code. Residents are also reminded the township has a grass ordinance and also a burning ordinance.
Wilson Fisher of Hess & Fisher Engineers presented a land development plan for the new school district maintenance building at Clearfield Junior-Senior High School. After reviewing the plans, the supervisors approved them on the condition that Superintendent Terry Struble sign the plans as soon as possible.
The supervisors approved budgeted donations to the Clearfield-Lawrence Joint Airport Authority, Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre, Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library and the SPCA. Only one donation to a fire company was approved.
Glen Richey has submitted the requested paperwork to the township and the supervisors approved their donation. Shaffner said she needed to check on Mill Road’s paperwork, and Hyde has not submitted anything.
Hyde and Mill Road will get their checks when the paperwork is submitted. However, the $826.60 due to each fire company from the amusement tax was approved for distribution.
The township received their 2016 allotment of County Aide in the amount of $10,721.12 and franchise fee of $16,638 for the first quarter.
Jeff Ogden submitted his resignation from the recreation board and the township regretfully accepted it and will advertise the position.
The second meeting date in June was changed to June 22 at 11 a.m. There will be two conditional use hearings prior at 10:40 a.m. and 10:50 a.m.
