Ivanka Trump on Wednesday responded to claims made in a New York Times story over the weekend about her father, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, and his history with women.
“I found it to be pretty disturbing based on the facts as I know them, and obviously I very much know them, both in the capacity as a daughter and in the capacity as an executive who’s worked alongside him at this company for a decade,” Trump told CBS’ Norah O’Donnell.
The Times published an in-depth report Sunday claiming Trump’s private interactions with women included unwelcome romantic advances and inappropriate commentary on female physical appearances.
Soon after the piece published, Donald Trump’s former girlfriend, Rowanne Brewer Lane, who was interviewed by the Times, lambasted the piece, claiming her quotes were taken out of context.
“They spun it. Obviously, they feel like they need to do something to make him look bad,” she told Fox News on Monday.
Donald Trump later tweeted, “We have exposed the article as a fraud!”
On Wednesday, Ivanka Trump dismissed the piece as “discredited.”
“It’s largely been discredited, since most of the time when stories are inaccurate, they’re not discredited. In this case, they went so far. They had a strong thesis and created facts to reinforce it, and I think that narrative has been played out now, and there’s backlash in that regard,” she said.
The younger Trump defended her father against claims he had groped a woman at a business meeting.
“I’m not in every interaction my father has. But he’s not a groper. That’s not who he is. I’ve known my father obviously my whole life. And he has total respect for women,” she said. “He was promoting women in development in construction at a time when it was unheard of.”
