TREASURE LAKE – A chimney fire damaged a home Sunday afternoon at 397 St. Barthelemy Rd., in Treasure Lake, reported Sandy Township Fire Chief John Hallowell.
Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters found the chimney area of the home on fire. The cause of the fire was an overheated flue pipe, which started to burn the wood around the flue, he said.
He identified the homeowners as being Joseph and Sally Hamlin, and they were able to escape without injury. He said they were alerted to the fire by a neighbor.
“No injuries were reported to either residents or firefighters,” Hallowell said. “Everything went smoothly and water wasn’t an issue. The fire was extinguished quickly by crews.”
Fire crews were on the scene for approximately an hour-and-a-half. Damage has been estimated at $15,000, and the home was insured, according to Hallowell.
All Sandy Township fire units responded to the scene, along with others from DuBois, Falls Creek, Penfield and Rockton.
