Joseph C. Helsel Jr., 83, of Hellam and formerly of Philipsburg, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services-York South.
Born Jan. 6, 1933 in Osceola Mills, he was a son of Joseph C. and Nettie Helsel Sr.
He was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Hallam.
Mr. Helsel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW in Hellam and the American Legion in Wrightsville.
He retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he was a district manager and loved playing golf and going to Myrtle Beach.
On Oct. 9, 1954 in Winchester, Va., he married Peggy L. (Goss) Helsel, who died May 27, 2012.
Mr. Helsel is survived by a son, Joseph C. Helsel and his wife, Carol of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Teri Lynn Bretherick of Hellam; a granddaughter, Caitlin Helsel; and a sister, Shirley Lamb of Littleton, Colo.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lee Helsel; a brother, Bill; and his sisters, Beverly, Phyllis and Nettie Mae.
Private funeral services will be held at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating.
Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
