Call it destiny.
LeToya Luckett has been cast to play singer Dionne Warwick in a planned film about the singer’s life, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The announcement was made Friday at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, which will be called “Dionne,” will be based on Warwick’s biography “My Life as I See It.”
Lady Gaga, Olympia Dukakis and Danny Glover were also announced as cast members in the film, but a rep for Gaga later released a statement saying the singer/actress is not connected to the project.
“Lady Gaga is not attached and will not appear in the project,” her publicist told Variety. “Reports of Gaga starring in the project are false.”
Luckett is one of the original members of the girl group, Destiny’s Child, which was fronted by Beyoncé.
“She is perfect and she has exactly the right look,” THR reported Warwick saying about Luckett playing her. “She will bring out what is needed for this part.”
Luckett, who had some success in 2006 with the R&B single “Torn,” will also record music for the film’s soundtrack.
