Donald Trump would consider naming former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to head of a commission on “radical Islam,” the real estate mogul said Wednesday.
“It’s a real problem, so we’ll figure it out and we will get it going but we have to be extremely careful,” Trump said Wednesday on Fox News, in response to a question about his proposed ban on allowing Muslims to enter the U.S., before switching to the subject of “radical Islamic terrorism.” “In fact, I’m thinking about setting up a commission perhaps headed by Rudy Giuliani to take a very serious look at this problem. But this is a worldwide problem and we have to be smart.”
Giuliani was mayor of New York City during the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks. The former mayor voted for Trump during April’s New York primary, but stopped short of officially endorsing the business mogul, distancing himself from the campaign.
Giuliani slammed Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States in December, calling it a violation of the First Amendment.
“It violates the First Amendment. You have no reasonable basis for it,” Giuliani told Fox News at the time.
