Jay Roy Shaffer, 76, of Wilmington, Ohio died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his home.
Born July 9, 1939 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Guy Allen and Mary Velma (Owens) Shaffer.
He graduated from Sandy Township High School in 1957. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1962-1964.
In August 1963, he married Brenda M. (Cowgill) Shaffer. She survives.
He worked as a cartographer for the U.S. Geological Survey. He was a member of the American Legion Post 184 in Herndon, Va.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Lynn Shaffer and Christopher Jay Shaffer, both of Portland, Ore., and two grandchildren, Ashley Shaffer and Alison Shaffer of Portland, Ore.; a brother Russell Shaffer and his wife, Kathy “Sis” of Rockton and a brother-in-law, Roger Witter of Rochester Mills; a nephew and three nieces; and a special friend, “Prissy.”
He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara “Sis” Witter.
There will be no visitation.
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the chapel at Morningside Cemetery with Pastor Richard Howe officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
