Kesha has returned to the studio while still battling to break free of her recording contract.
The singer posted a black-and-white photo of herself on Instagram performing in studio with the caption, “It’s a miracle when someone gives you a chance at finding your voice again with no reason other than that he is a f**king beautiful person with a heart of gold @zedd #truecolors.”
Kesha has been using litigation to try and get released from her contract with Kemosabe Records and its parent company, Sony Music Entertainment, in light of her accusations that she was drugged, emotionally abused and sexually assaulted by her former producer, Dr. Luke.
Dr. Luke, whose legal name is Lukasz Gottwald, has denied her allegations.
The legal battle between Gottwald and Kesha, whose full name is Kesha Rose Sebert, has been a long and emotional one that has included other celebs taking sides and the singer complaining she has been unable to work as her lawsuit wends its way through the courts.
In February, a New York court denied Kesha’s request for a preliminary injunction that would have released her from her contract. Then this month, the New York judge dismissed nearly all of the singer’s counterclaims against Dr. Luke except one, according to People magazine. She still has a similar suit in California.
Kesha and produce-DJ Zedd recently performed together at Coachella, and he also posted images on Instagram of their studio time. One caption read, “ZEDD & KESHA – TRUE COLORS OFFICIALLY OUT: 4/29 Music can be freedom.”
And so there would be no misunderstandings, Zedd tweeted, “Just to clarify: We didn’t use any loop holes. Kemosabe / RCA gave us permission to release this song!”
Dr. Luke tweeted back, “Thanks for the clarification @Zedd.”
Entertainment Weekly reported Wednesday that Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, dropped her counterclaims against Dr. Luke of intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress based on Kesha’s allegations of abuse.
“The litigation with Dr. Luke has been a nightmare for Mrs. Sebert and her family,” Sebert’s attorney said in a statement. “She has decided to move on and find peace and forgiveness in her heart rather than dwelling in the cancerous past of an ongoing lawsuit with no end in sight.”
